Turn Key
Builds
We do complete turn
key projects and do
almost everything in
house so we maintain
total control over
the project and
project flow. With
most projects we
start with your car,
but we can also
provide a good donor
car from our
inventory, or find a
good donor.
Project
Planning
Project planning is
the most important
segment of the
project. Too often
projects elsewhere
get started without
clear direction and
/ or budget and snow
ball into a project
that either blows
the budget, or dies
half finished
because of poor
project planning. A
huge service in our
parts business is
working with
professional and
hobbyist builders
all over the world
doing project
planning. Most of
that project
planning is helping
the builder find the
correct combinations
of parts that work
together. Many other
car builders come to
us for advice and
project planning on
Pro Touring builds
because this may be
a new theme to them.
On in house full
builds we start with
a few idea meetings
so we can get a
better idea of your
goals, budget,
requirements,
concerns, schedule.
Once we bounce
around some basic
ideas and build
themes, we can start
to provide some
round numbers for
you to help us dial
in on the exact
build you are
looking for. All
this idea and budget
conversation leads
us closer to a
formal proposal. We
then will build a
proposal that will
very clearly list
the parts cost and
procedure times.
Most of these
procedures will
actually have HARD
NUMBERS in the labor
column meaning a
fixed labor cost for
that particular
procedure! Most
other shops will not
do any hard numbers;
At Prodigy Customs
we pride ourselves
on filling as many
hard number columns
as possible to
better protect your
budget. If a
procedure on the
proposal has to be
open because there
is simply no way of
knowing the exact
amount of time for
that procedure, the
labor column for
that procedure a
estimated amount of
hours that will have
a asterisk
explaining this is a
open item. Most
times open items
come very close to
the estimate, and
often these open
items even come out
to be less hours
then estimated. At
Prodigy Customs we
pride ourselves on
fair and clear
billing, and have
unlimited references
on this important
subject.
Artist
Renderings
Once we go to
contract, we then
put you together
with one of our
artist to produce a
rendering of your
project. The
rendering is a very
important tool that
ensures the final
product can indeed
be your exact
vision! The ability
to be able to see
the finished project
in print before the
live project is
finished is
invaluable. The new
digital rendering
are incredibly life
like, and the artist
can make changes
quickly without
starting al over
again as in the past
with manual
sketches. To be able
to change colors /
color combinations,
graphics / graphic
colors, wheels /
wheel colors, trim
options assures you
end up with exactly
what you want. To
often I have had
ideas that sounded
fantastic that when
implemented on the
rendering were not
nearly as cool as it
sounded! In the days
past before
renderings, we had
disappointments when
the project was
finished as it
sounded better then
it looked. The
rendering negates
this and also has
the side benefit of
providing a frame
able piece of art to
carry you through
the build process.
Hang it in your
office and you will
be amazed at what a
conversation piece
it is. We have a few
different artists
and each has their
own unique style.
Turn Key
Builds
As I mentioned
above, we can do a
complete turn key
build almost
completely in house.
Right now the only
thing we sublet to
other shops, is the
engine machine work,
Upholstery sewing,
Headliner and
convertible top
installation, and
front end
alignments.
Partial Builds
A huge part of our
business is partial
builds. We do a lot
of projects that we
do all the welding,
fabrication,
chassis, tubs, body
sheetmetal, and then
we put the car in
paint and send it to
the owner for
assembly. This has
been very popular as
most home hobbyist
cannot do this work
at home, but once it
is in paint, they
can handle the
assembly, which
quite honestly is
the fn part. Almost
like assembling a
model at that point!
The most popular
partial build
usually includes us
installing glass and
weatherstrips so the
car is weather tight
for shipping
purposes.
Interestingly a
enough, we also end
up with many jobs
which we do the
complete opposite
and take either a
fresh painted car
and assemble it, or
it may be a upgrade
package to a already
nice car. Long story
short, we can take
your project to
whatever level of
completion you want.
Service /
Updating Services
We do a lot a
service type work.
We do everything
from simple brake
repairs to brake
conversions,
suspension repair to
suspension
conversions, engine
repair to engine
conversions. We do a
lot of late model
take out engine
conversions like LSX
motors from
Corvette, F Bodies,
Trucks, into old
cars. It is not
uncommon for us to
take a nice restored
car, drop all the
suspension out of
it, swap in a new
frame, engine,
trans, rear, etc,
and never touch the
paint or interior.
We keep a steady
stream of service
project rolling
through the shop and
can generally
schedule these
project 2 to 4 weeks
out. We like to
schedule the
project, get all the
parts on the
property, and have
everything we know
we will need in
advance so the
project can flow
quickly through the
shop.
Sheet Metal /
Fabrication / Paint
and Body
We do chassis
fabrication, wheel
tubs, firewalls,
etc. We have welding
service including
Mig Welding, Tig
welding of steel,
stainless and
aluminum. We do
award winning
exterior body and
paint including
original sheetmetal
panel replacement
and restoration to
custom body mods. We
do body and paint
using only the best
material, and only
do it one way
starting with a bare
naked body. We do
all our stripping
and sand blasting in
house and use only
the best epoxy
primers, polyester
fillers, 2 part
primers. We use only
the best base coat /
clear coat high
solid urethane
products. We also do
triple stage
“candies” and
graphics. If
required, we have
some of the top air
brush and pinstripe
artist around that
we work with. Our
Paint and body
department is
efficient and fast,
there is NO body shop
prison at Prodigy
Customs!
